Sherpa's Hostel and Hikers Paradise Hostel form a pair of hostel operations in Tatranská Štrba. This is a practical mountain base for hikers, solo travellers, backpackers and people who come to the Tatras for hiking, nature, public transport access and affordable yet quality accommodation.

Both operations are built on a simple, modern and functional hostel model: good train access, shared kitchens, a social atmosphere, cleanliness, affordability and a focus on international travellers.

Guest ratings on OTA platforms are among the highest in the High Tatras hostel segment — reviews directly drive organic demand.
Context, strategy & details

Tatranská Štrba is one of the main entry points into the High Tatras — it has a railway station on the Bratislava–Košice main line, a direct connection to the Tatra Electric Railway (TEŽ) and quick access to Štrbské Pleso. For an international guest arriving without a car, it is practically the most convenient Tatra location.

The target group is clearly defined: international backpackers, solo travellers, young couples, small hiking groups and people on short stays (1–3 nights) focused on hiking. For this group, the combination of price, cleanliness, location, transport access and the hostel's social vibe is decisive — and that is exactly what both operations offer.

Guest ratings on both Booking and Hostelworld confirm this — both operations rank among the top-rated hostels in the High Tatras segment, which directly translates into repeat bookings and organic demand. Current scores are shown in the summary table below.

The strategy of running two operations instead of one large one is deliberate. Smaller hostels have a better atmosphere, higher ratings and lower operational risk. The second operation (Hikers Paradise) was also a response to Sherpa's being almost continuously booked out in peak season — instead of turning guests away, capacity was expanded under a second brand.

The seasonality of the High Tatras (winter + summer) is balanced by guest diversity — hikers, skiers, cyclists, conference dropouts and digital nomads come at different times of the year. Work with OTAs (Booking, Hostelworld) is professional — reviews, pricing and availability are managed daily.

Sherpa's Hostel & Hikers Paradise — Tatranská Štrba

An attractive High Tatras location, but with growing competition and pronounced seasonality.

02Approach

Building affordable tourist accommodation with a hostel character and gradually expanding capacity through a second operation.

03Outcome

The smaller hostel was almost continuously booked in last year's peak season; the second operation expanded capacity and made it possible to better serve the demand for affordable mountain accommodation in the High Tatras.
